Does Tom McClintock's Votes The Last Few Years Dishonor Veterans?
Posted by: curtislwalker

Disclosure: I am a Disabled Viet Nam Era Veteran--So For Me This Is Not Politics, it is PERSONAL.

TOM McCLINTOCK HAS MADE A CAREER OF ABANDONING OUR MILITARY &

VETERANS

Tom McClintock has received over $100,000 in salary and more than $30,000 per year in per diem for living only several miles away from the capitol. Instead of honoring the troops who make his lavish taxpayer-funded lifestyle possible, he’s turned his back on them. I will not even go into the use of FREE gas on the State when he lives in ELK GROVE NOR THE FACT THAT HE DOES NOT EVEN LIVE IN OUR DISTRICT!

Anyone who has been around as an elected official as long as Tom McClintock will actually HAVE voted for Veteran related legislation many times along the way (over 20+ years as an elected individual). For this post, I will limit my examples to RECENT HISTORY (last 10 years). That said, when A NON-VETERAN votes against the following Veteran Issues while the Country is at WAR, I think it raises serious questions.

Examples (McClintock Anti-Veteran Votes):

OPPOSED the Veterans’ Home Bond Act that provided funding to construct and renovate veterans’ homes. Voters approved the measure by a wide margin. Proposition 16, 2000; SB 630, 9/10/99

FAILED TO SUPPORT bond funding needed by the Cal-Vet program to give home loans to at least 2,500 California veterans. Voters approved the measure by a wide margin. Proposition 32, 2000; AB 2305,

6/29/00

JUST MONTHS AFTER 9/11, was one of only two State Senators who failed to support “Freedom Pay” for state employees called to active duty to fight the war on terrorism. SB 711, 1/30/02

ONE OF ONLY TWO SENATORS TO VOTE AGAINST legislation that protects the families of California soldiers serving in Iraq from financial hardship. AB 1666, 9/7/05; AB 306, 9/6/05; AB 276, 9/6/05

ONE OF ONLY TWO SENATORS TO VOTE AGAINST legislation that protects the widows of California soldiers killed in action in Iraq from financial hardship. SB 513, 8/29/05

ONE OF ONLY TWO SENATORS TO VOTE AGAINST a measure that helps expedite school transfers for the children of active-duty California soldiers. AB 208, 8/18/05

ONE OF ONLY TWO SENATORS TO VOTE AGAINST the “Veterans Quality of Life Fund” which lets taxpayers make VOLUNTARY contributions to veterans’ homes. AB 357, 8/18/05

ONE OF ONLY TWO SENATORS TO VOTE AGAINST a measure that ensures adequate staffing of the California National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction and Civil Support Teams. AB 690, 8/23/05

And then there is this:

“As Governor, I could never count on Tom McClintock. He was always the first to criticize, but the last to help...His record doesn’t match his rhetoric. Tom McClintock votes against benefits for our troops in Iraq, but takes $306,000 in benefits for himself.” Pete Wilson, Former Governor of California

And this:

“Instead of his best, he gave the worst. When it comes to supporting our troops, TOM McCLINTOCK has the Legislature’s worst voting record. How does he sleep at night? Vern Pierson, El Dorado County

District Attorney

And this:

(The plight of US War Veterans) “wasn’t a real news-story,” McClintock Spokesman, Roseville Press Tribune, 3/20/08

Questions:

Is this the kind of votes we can expect in CONGRESS if McClintock was to be elected to replace John Doolittle?

What message do these votes, and better yet, the voters in CD-4, if we elect someone who has voted against the legislation listed above? Or does it send a message at all?

What is the logic for not even allowing folks to VOLUNTARILY give money to VETERANS HOMES?

Like I said, this is personal for me, not a Democratic or Republican or Independent perspective, but I really think VOTERS want to know what type of thinking goes into not allowing VOLUNTARY contributions to elderly veterans who have served our country, or voted against our OWN CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD funding to handle CIVIL SUPPORT TEAMS in the case of a horrible attack or National Emergency right here in California?

What is your thoughts?

"Disclosure: I am a Disabled Viet Nam Era Veteran--So For Me This Is Not Politics, it is PERSONAL."

Bullsh*t. Its politics.

Thank you for your service, but your perspective is all screwed up.

There are plenty of Vietnam veterans, disabled and otherwise, who support Tom McClintock.

There are plenty of veterans in general who support Tom McClintock.

Some are heroes. Maybe even more heroic than you imagine yourself to be.

My thoughts are that any Congressperson as disgraced as our current soon to be indicted incumbent Republican Congressperson, shouldn't be getting his ex staffers to run such disgusting, dishonorable Swiftboating type ads against a real veteran, and then turn around and pretend the carpetbagger he wants to replace him has any idea of honorable conduct.

That goes without saying that his campaign flunkies getting those "charity" donations off McClintock's 2010 state account to pay for his Federal campaign activities, in vioalation of the campaign finance laws, shouldn't be making disparaging comments about other veterans, either.

War is hell.

War on a credit card will break the banking system and make a national crisis.

War on those who serve the nation will eventually break the Republican Party.

Are you a professional letter writer? First you wrote a letter against Dan Logue CD03, now McClintock CD04, whose next? How much do you get paid for each letter?

Loomisresident (YOUR PROFILE IS BLANK)

Who am I? I am a Disabled Viet Nam Era Veteran who never did much of anything but always did VOTE my entire life. That was until this election. I did something most people do not, I got involved.

The country is in a mess, the State is in a mess and we are not getting the representation we deserve in the district that I live in. Perhaps you think you are doing great, and that is fine, too. Rally for whoever you support.

Hopefully you can participate in this discussion without or with other than personal attacks in the future. I noticed that you took the time to post attacks on more than one post on this blog and hopefully you will attempt to actually ad value by answering the questions I have asked or ask your own.

I will continue to make certain that FACTS are out there for folks to evaluate. Nobody makes you read the posts.

When I filled out my ballot last week I did have a choice to vote for BOTH Dan Logue and Tom McClintock, since both would represent my district should they win. Veteran issues matter to me (and have for thirty plus years). So what their positions are on this issue and past actions/votes are RELEVANT to me.

Have a great week.

Curtis,

Don't forget AB-324, 1997. McClintock was the ONLY member of the Assembly to vote against this bill which made it possible for many more veterans to get skilled care for Alzheimer's at California's Veterans Homes.

I repeat: McClintock was the ONLY member of the Assembly to vote against a bill to support people like Army veterans Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston and the thousands of other California vets suffering from this horrible disease.

Why? Maybe it has something to do with the hundreds of thousands of dollars McClintock has received in campaign donations from the health care and insurance industries. Maybe he's just cheap (OK, he is cheap--there's no "maybe" about it). But one thing is perfectly clear from this vote and the others you cite: McClintock does not support veterans if it takes any effort. He'll vote for the easy bills but when the going gets rough, McClintock is AWOL for veterans.

I'm a vet and feel McClintock's willingness to attack Brown when he has such a miserable record on veteran's issues is simply despicable. I take it personal, too.

McClintock is a waste of a vote but unfortunately Charlie is not worth voting for either. CD 04 is screwed this time around, neither party has a viable candiddate

Rational_Thinker: You claim some veterans support McCain. You claim some veterans are heroes. That's nice. You avoided the issues.

Is Curtislwalker lying? Is that really McClintock's voting record? Are the statements an accurate indication of how McClintock treats veterans?

Have you noticed that Tom McClintock's campaign signs say nothing about the office he is running for? Do you know why that is? So when he loses to Charlie Brown, he'll be able to reuse his signs when he carpetbags in another district. Is Tom qualified as anything else but a career politician?
