Bending over backwards
Folsom fitness fanatic Nick Clark is one motivated dude
Nick Clark talks the talk but he also walks the walk. The 27-year-old Folsom resident is an enthusiastic health nut who encourages nearly everyone he meets to join him in his crusade for being healthy and fit. Clark rides his bike to work every Friday and practices yoga, plays soccer and is a triathlete to boot. On top of all that, he also eats healthy foods. “Everything that I do is with the goal in mind to motivate people to promote a healthy lifestyle,” Clark said. “I’m here to motivate and inspire people to be healthy.” Clark, who works in marketing for the health product, Mona-Vie, which is a liquid beverage that provides nutrients to help people improve and maintain their health, rides between 50 and 90 miles on Fridays during working hours, visiting clients and colleagues between Citrus Heights and El Dorado Hills. He also travels with his video camera and often interviews people he comes in contact with and uploads the video to his blog, as well as his Facebook account. “Every week I have a different theme,” Clark explains. “One week I had a buddy ride with me and we had 34 bananas with us and were asking people how much fruits and vegetables they eat. Many said they don’t eat enough, so we were able to distribute all the bananas. The idea is for people to understand that I care about people’s health. I talk about health, but I also act on it.” Ideally, Clark would like to recruit as many people or companies to promote Fridays as being Bike to Work day. Clark got his start in yoga a few years ago and after getting away from it, has dove back into it with full force, teaching classes at Zuda Yoga on Blue Ravine Road. “Yoga is a great workout for the mind and the body,” Clark said. “It allows someone to challenge themselves mentally and physically and it teaches them to push past barriers so they can grow as a person.” On one of his bike to work Fridays, Clark stopped by the American River Montessori Preschool in Folsom and taught a yoga class. “Teaching 5 and 6 year olds yoga was tough because yoga’s all about being calm, but by the end of the class I had everyone quiet so I was happy about that.” Clark is becoming well known in the Folsom business community. Not only is he a Folsom Chamber Ambassador, but he also has started a weekly business networking group that meets at 1 p.m. Mondays at Fat’s Asian Bistro. Christina Wagner, a friend of Clark’s, is impressed by his dedication and determination. “I think Nick’s an amazing person,” Wagner said. “He strives to lead by example and instead of just saying something, he does it and he puts it all out there for all to see. It truly comes from his heart.” To learn more about Clark, visit nickclarkhealth.com.
