Vista tennis team wins three straight matches this week
Staff Report

Vista del Lago’s varsity boys’ tennis team is off to a 4-2 start, coming off three wins this week.

The Eagles have a talented group, led by No. 1 singles player Austin Murphy, who along with Nic Bacchini and Sahand Rastegarpour, are undefeated on the season with 6-0 records.

“The team is really coming together after playing two seasons together,” Vista coach Chris Evers said. “Compliment that with the new players coming in this season and we’re playing good tennis. With the lack of practice time due to weather, we still need a lot of work, though.”

Murphy dropped only three games this week in the team’s 9-0 wins over Mira Loma on Thursday, Galt on Wednesday and Casa Roble on Tuesday. Murphy won two matches 6-0, 6-1 and won the other 6-1, 6-0.

Bacchini stayed unbeaten with 6-3, 6-0 win over his opponent from Mira Loma. Earlier in the week he won matches by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0.

Rastegarpour defeated Ben Joseph from Mira Loma 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. He won matches against Galt and Casa Roble by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.

James Carey, Sai Rathish and Kory James each won all three of their singles matches.

In doubles action, Douglas Wong, Sujay Senrayan, Jake Muro, Kyle Johnson and Tyler Mallari all won three doubles matches, while Timmy Jacobs played on two winning teams and Brandon Buck played on one.

The Eagles have a busy week next week. After playing Cordova on Monday and Union Mine in Wednesday, they play host to Rosemont on Thursday and are at Roseville on Friday.
