Taylor Harris as Olivia believes she has found her true love in Cesario/Viola played by Jayna Feldman.

They’re at it again singing and dancing on the stage of Empire Oaks Elementary as the actors and technicians of the Shakespeare Academy present William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”

The musical adaptation is performed at 7 p.m. March 11-13 at the school at 1830 Bonhill Drive.

The Shakespeare Academy includes more than 55 young people in this year’s production.

“Our audience is in for a real treat this year as our young students perform one of Shakespeare’s wonderful comedies complete with confusion and laughs at every turn. This is one old and young alike will enjoy,” said director Barbara Harris.

The made-for-children version of the Shakespeare classic features singing and dancing as well as Shakespeare’s well-known dialogue.

“I love this Shakespeare production because the actors and audience have loads of fun from the time the curtain goes up until the show ends, and as always the children will do everything from the acting and singing to the lights and sound,” said co-director Kristin Surritt Rodgers.

Empire Oaks Principal Monika Himmrich is looking forward to the production.

“Our Shakespeare Academy has become a very popular arts groups in Folsom,” she said. “The program continues to provide an opportunity for our students, those from surrounding schools and members of our community to enjoy the works of Shakespeare. This is a truly wonderful learning opportunity that helps children build self-esteem and personal responsibility through the arts. I am very proud of these students who meet weekly to devote personal time to the Arts.”

In existence since 1999, the program has involved more than 700 children and performed before more than 11,000 audience members.

“This program is a perfect example of the support for the arts in Folsom. When we open our doors the audience is lined up every night,” Harris said. “The children never cease to amaze me – performing six shows in three days before hundreds of community members, family and students. The Shakespeare Academy is part of what makes this a great community and we hope everyone will come and enjoy the hard work of these young people.”

The performances are free and open to the public.
