Assistant coach Lynn Webb and Oak Ridge players Natalie Stone, Alexa Pickett, Jodie Richards, and Kelsi Danciart cheer on their teammates late in the game in the victory over Kennedy. The team is now headed to the Nor-Cal playoffs. Their next game is 7 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge High School.

Oak Ridge High’s varsity girls’ basketball team opens the Northern California playoffs at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against either Oakland Tech or Castro Valley.

The Lady Trojans are seeded second behind Berkeley, which means if Oak Ridge wins Thursday, the team will have a second home game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Oak Ridge is fresh off winning the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship on Saturday at Arco Arena, where the team handily defeated Kennedy, 64-50.

The section title is their second straight and third overall. The team won the Division II title a year ago and won its first section title in Division III in 2003.

“It’s not about what level you win them at,” Oak Ridge coach Steve White said, “what I’m most pleased about is that we’re consistent at what we’re doing.”

Oak Ridge played one of its best games in the win over Kennedy and White said he hopes his team can duplicate that effort two more times to get back to the Nor-Cal final on March 20 at Arco Arena.

“At this point I don’t know how much it matters whether you’re wearing your whites or your blues,” White said. “We’ve just got to go out there and take care of business.”
