Folsom turns in top performances at CAL Invitational
Folsom High’s track and field team turned in some solid performances at the CAL Invitational on Saturday at Bella Vista High School. Trevor Jones had a good day in the throws, as he took second in the discus with a throw of 148 feet, 8 inches, while also placing third in the shot put with a distance of 45’8”. Both throws were personal-best marks. Seeking tougher competition, sophomore Doug Vernon competed at the varsity level and still dominated, winning the triple jump by nearly two feet with a leap of 43’8”. That leap was only two inches off a 27-year-old sophomore school record at Folsom High and is the fifth-best varsity jump in the books. It's also the third-best triple jump in the state so far this year. Scott Hayes also took second in the pole vault at a height of 12 feet. The varsity boys finished in fifth-place finish out of 30 schools. The varsity girls placed fourth with Madi Bell turning in a strong run in the 800 meters. Bell ran fourth after the first lap, but turned it up a notch on the final lap and went on to win the race in 2 minutes, 25 seconds. Jessica Gannon also won the high jump with a personal-best height of 5’2”. It's also the fifth-best in the state this season. Jenna Crouch finished third in 4’10”. Blanka Hodur also took second in the 3,200 in 11:51.
