Teen in custody following school 'threats'
Phone call prompted school lockdown in El Dorado Hills
By Penne Usher, Telegraph Correspondent

A threatening phone call to the Buckeye Union School District office prompted a lockdown of several El Dorado Hills schools and landed one teenager in jail.

Rolling Hills, Oak Ridge High School, Silva Valley and Oak Meadow schools were on lockdown until 9:15 a.m., according to Kathy Daniels, director of facilities for the El Dorado County Office of Education.

She said that El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies were on scene all morning and apprehended a suspect.

Sgt. Phil Chovanec, of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office, confirmed Friday afternoon that a 13- or 14-year-old male was taken into custody charged with felonies including threatening school officials.

“The threat wasn’t specific in nature, but more of a general ‘I’m going to get everybody’ threat,” Chovanec said.

Authorities were immediately contacted and the schools were placed on lockdown for about an hour.

“We were able to identify a suspect quickly thanks in part to the school doing such a great job,” Chovanec said. “This allowed us to do our jobs.”

The name of the teen is not being released due to his age.

Parents were contacted about the incident.

I hope this kid doesnt get a slap on the wrist. They need to lock him up for a while.

How about a good old fashioned paddle across the butt at the school in front of all the students and faculty? Plus a good washing his mouth out with lava soap is a must. Don't publicize you don't want to make him famous just embarass the hell out of him in fromt of his friends and neighbors.

A kid like this needs to have psychological counseling, so we don't have a future Columbine or Georgia Tech situation.

"Lock him up", "Throw the book at him", "embarrass him so bad his family has to move". "Lava soap?"

If this kid is a real anger I'll be surprised. Probably wanted to miss a test or something.

Public flogging. Then send him away for six months of home school and mandatory counseling for he and his family. Whatever his motive or root cause, it was unacceptable. The lives of other children shouldn't be put in jeopardy by a warm and fuzzy pat on the bum "now back to school little Johnny" attitude.

ChuxxR- it looks like your outnumbered on this one. What would you suggest happens to him?

Let's see auburnnative, I would suggest something like Peer Court. I don't consider any child to be a throw away. If this kid didn't have any bomb making material or guns or anything on the net or messages...BUT we do not know this. It sounds like he had a beef with the school and made a poor decision.

Above all I would protect the other students by expelling the student.

ChuxxR: You see, this thread is a perfect forum where these red meat Republicans can practice their natural instinct of extracting their lb. of flesh from this kid...when in actuality, the first solution should be something like Peer Court..I'd like to hear Jon's opinion of this.

The solutions here have actually been non-solutions jsut locking him up for a while will accomplish nothing more than fostering deeper anymosity.
