Folsom off to 2-0 start in league, Pollock places sixth at Clovis
Folsom High’s wrestling team kicked off the Delta River League season Wednesday with a pair of dominating wins over Pleasant Grove and Jesuit and then competed in some tournaments over the weekend. The wins over Pleasant Grove, 54-9 and Jesuit, 62-12 improved the team’s dual record to 5-1. Jordan Alleva (Hwt.), Zyk Idrogo (119), Matt Parker (135), Ryan Jensen (140), Isaias Diaz (145), Brett Adcock (152) and Tevenn Lewis (215) earned pins, while Tony Hernandez (125) and Sam Morgan (130) earned decisions. Morgan provided the highlight against Jesuit, as he defeated fellow Folsom resident and third-ranked Chris Winn, 9-3, at 130. Tyler Rios (112), Hernandez (125), Parker (135), Jensen (140) and Lewis (215) earned pins, while Anthony Hall (160) won by technical fall and Diaz (145) and Adcock (152) won by decisions. “It was a great start to our league season,” Folsom coach Mike Collier said. “We had some wrestlers get their first varsity win, and much of our lineup went up a weight class to help the team and was still victorious. Both of the JV matches were also won by Folsom.” Pollock (103), Diaz (145) and Dillon Fader (171) competed in the Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis High on Friday and Saturday. Pollock became the first Folsom sophomore wrestler to place at the meet, finishing sixth with a 5-3 record. The highlight of the tournament was Pollock’s 4-2 win over top-seeded Adrian Rodriguez. “Although he didn’t finish as he would have liked, Connor was in every match and had an outstanding tournament,” Collier said. “He beat some quality kids.” Diaz nearly placed at 145 pounds, falling one win shy of a medal. Diaz won three of his five matches, all three wins coming by pin. Fader suffered a 2-1 loss in the last round of wrestling on Friday and just missed out on earning a medal. At the Big Valley Wrestling Tournament in Stockton, Idrogo (120) and Hernandez (126) came away with medals, as both were champions of the “Hard-Luck” Tournament on the second day, winning all four of their matches. Matthew Parker (131) was a win away from earning a medal and ended with a 5-2 record. Adcock (153), Hall (161), Alex Wood (190), Lewis (190) and Alleva (216) all won four of their six matches. Jensen (141) and Alex Hurlimann (161) both split four matches. All Folsom entrants won at least two matches. Folsom’s female wrestlers also competed in the Napa Invitational, which Collier said is one of the biggest and toughest tournaments in the state. Tianna Camous placed fourth at 132 pounds, becoming the school’s first wrestler to place in the tournament. Rachel Glover (132) finished one match away from the medal round, while Justine Angello (108) also competed in the tournament. Folsom’s next action is Friday and Saturday at the Lloyd C. Engel Tournament in Escalon.
