Hal Koerner of Ashland OR, was the winner of the 2009 Western States Endurance Run. Koerner covered the 100 mile course in 16:24:55 through very high canyon temperatures. Koerner was the 2007 WS100 winner and the race was not run last year due to area fires. Anita Ortiz was the women's winner and she was ninth overall finishing the course in 18:24:17. The Colorado 45 year-old mother of four struck gold on her first outing in the 100 mile distance. The race went of good with many locals runner finishing the grueling run.
