Drowning victim was Fair Oaks man
Blood and abandoned vehicle make for puzzling circumstances
Authorities have identified the drowning victim retrieved from Lake Natoma on Wednesday as 54-year-old Timothy Allen Hecht of Fair Oaks. The day was a busy one for law enforcement. A body recovered from Lake Natoma, a downed lamppost at the Lake Natoma Inn, blood found in two nearby locations and an abandoned security-style vehicle with damage to its side and front left investigators trying to piece together at least two puzzles. While waiting for a recovery team to retrieve the body found just below the inn Wednesday morning, Folsom Police Information Officer Michelle Beattie was asked about blood found across the street on the door of a business. “We don’t know if the blood on the door is related,” she said. Cyclists on a path below Lake Natoma Crossing called 911 at 10:30 a.m. to report seeing a body in the water, Beattie said. “Officers arrived less than 10 minutes after receiving the call,” she said. Shonna Martin, employed at Stanfield Systems at 718 Sutter St., said she found blood on the door of the business when she came to work that morning. Seeing the officers gathered nearby, she walked across the street to report what she found. The officers were gathered because they were readying for a press conference regarding the body in the lake. She also said an unusual vehicle was in the parking lot on Leidesdorff Street with damage to its front bumper and driver side. “That car is kind of smashed in at the side, so I don’t know if it was involved with the light (pole) being knocked down (at the inn),” she said. A smashed bottle was found in front of the car, along with more blood, she said. “That car has been here since at least four in the morning,” she said. "That's when (a coworker) came in and saw it there." Beattie said she was unaware of anything related to the damaged car in the parking lot or the downed light pole. "We don't have anything that puts our victim in the white vehicle," Beattie said. "There was no trauma to the body." Beattie said the two incidents are separate. "We had a fight down on Sutter Street (Tuesday) night," she said. "That's probably where the blood came from." Caution tape was put up along access points of the trail leading to the location of the body as well as the breezeway between the Leidesdorff Street parking lot and Sutter Street. More caution tape and cones lined the downed light post and sign at the inn. The body was recovered around 1:15 p.m., a little less than three hours after the initial 911 call. A man who answered the phone at the Lake Natoma Inn said they were not allowed to comment on the recovery of the body or the downed lamppost. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
